Players: 2 - 7
Crazy 8s uses a standard deck. Each player is dealt a hand of 7 cards. The remaining cards form the draw pile.
The top card of the draw pile is played face up. Players take turns to play a card onto the table - they must play a card which either matches the suit of the previous card or has the same value.
Some cards have special effects when played. There are many variations available on which cards have which powers.
If a player has no valid cards to play, they must draw a card from the draw pile.
The round ends when a player gets rid of all their cards. All other players score penalty points based on the cards remaining in their hands.
Players score penalty points based on the value of the cards remaining in their hand.
Face cards are worth 10 points, Aces are worth 1 point and all other cards are worth their number values. The suit changing card is worth 50 points.
The game ends when one player reaches 50 points. The target can also be set to 100, 150 or 200 points. The player with the fewest points wins.
Suit Change Power Card
The card which allowed the player to name a new suit can be set to eight, King or Ace.
Skip Power Card
The card that causes the next player to miss their turn can be set to eight, or disabled.
Draw Power Card
Playing this card forces the next player to draw two cards, unless they can play a card of the same rank. If they do so, the next player is obliged to pick up 2 cards or play a card of the same rank, and so on, until someone is forced to pick up the cards. This card can be set to Two or Ace, or disabled entirely.
The number of cards the target of the Draw Power has to draw can be set to 2 or 4.
Reverse Power Card
Playing this card reverses the direction of play. This card can be set to King, or disabled entirely.
Suit Dump Power Card
After playing this card, the player can play any number of cards of the current suit. This card can be set to Seven or Ten, or disabled entirely.
Run Power Card
After playing this card, the player can play a run of cards of the current. This card can be set to Seven or Ten, or disabled entirely.
Set Power Combo
Players can play multiple cards of the same rank at once.
Jack Power Cards
Playing a Black Jack forces the next player to pick up 4 cards, unless that player can play a Red Jack.
Black Queen Power Card
After playing the Black Queen, the player swaps their hand with the next player.
Suit Change Finish Allowed
Players are permitted to end with the card with the Suit Change power.
The number of times the discard pile can be reused to refresh the draw pile can be set to 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5, or disabled entirely.
The discard pile is shuffled before refreshing the draw pile.
